Begin with a free course (Course 1) and quiz. Continue through two additional interprofessional courses and earn a certificate of completion from Collaborate for Health. Developed by Tina Patel Gunaldo, PhD, DPT, MHS, interprofessional textbook author and interprofessional education researcher with 15 years in the field.

The Difference Between Multidisciplinary, Interdisciplinary, and Interprofessional Teams
Most health professionals use the terms multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and interprofessional interchangeably, but these team types are not the same. Each describes a different level of integration, shared decision-making, and patient engagement. Most interprofessional collaborative practice is thought of as something that happens in a room, during a huddle, a handoff, or a team meeting. This course challenges that assumption. It helps you recognize interprofessional collaborative practice in the everyday actions a health professional does alone. The task itself does not make an action interprofessional. The understanding behind it does.

From Recognition to Design: Building the Conditions for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice
The first two courses in this series focused on recognizing interprofessional collaborative practice. This course moves from recognition to design. It begins with the individual intentionally developing their interprofessional competence and interprofessional identity, and then introduces an evidence-based framework that defines characteristics of a high-performing interprofessional team.

Foundations of Interprofessional Collaborative Practice
Complete all three courses in this series and earn a Certificate of Completion in Foundations of Interprofessional Collaborative Practice from Collaborate for Health. This certificate reflects a structured, three-course learning series covering the foundational principles of interprofessional, team-based care, grounded in evidence-based frameworks and applicable across health professions.
Do Not Just List It on Your Resume. Be Ready to Talk About it.
Completing the certificate gives you more than a line item, it gives you something to speak about during the interview process. When an interviewer asks a follow-up question, you should be ready to engage in a conversation about your learning and how it has or will impact the work you do. After you complete all three courses, you will receive an email invitation to a monthly, 30-minute virtual session where we work through how to talk about what you learned and how you plan to apply that learning. You will leave with an answer you are ready to give, and the confidence to build on it as you strengthen your interprofessional competence and identity.

How do I receive credit for these courses through my AHEC Scholars Program?
Credit approval is determined by each individual AHEC Scholars program. Discuss these courses with your program coordinator to confirm whether they qualify for hours and what documentation is required. Once approved, the email you receive from Collaborate for Health with the video recording can serve as supporting documentation.
Do I need to take all three courses, or can I start with just the free one?
You can start with the free course. If you want to build a stronger, more complete foundation in interprofessional collaborative practice and earn the Certificate in Foundations of Interprofessional Collaborative Practice, the next two courses complete that path.
What do I need to provide to receive my certificate of completion?
Nothing beyond completing all three courses. Once all three are complete, a certificate of completion will be sent to the email address provided at registration.
